An Educational Visit by Winway IAS Academy
As part of its commitment to offering real-world learning experiences, Winway IAS Academy organized an insightful visit to one of the most iconic national monuments of India—India Gate, New Delhi. Standing tall and proud at the heart of the capital, India Gate is more than a magnificent arch; it is a solemn tribute to India’s soldiers and a reminder of the values of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism.
For the students of Winway IAS Academy, especially those aspiring for civil services, this visit was not only moving—it was enlightening. It offered them the opportunity to reflect on the ideals that shape a strong nation and the role of public servants in upholding them.
🇮🇳 A National War Memorial
Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, India Gate was built in 1931 to commemorate the 84,000 Indian soldiers of the British Indian Army who lost their lives during World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. The names of over 13,000 soldiers are inscribed on the structure—a permanent mark of remembrance for those who served the country with unmatched bravery.
As students walked up the Rajpath and stood before the 42-meter-high stone arch, they were struck by its majestic design and solemn presence. Surrounded by lush lawns and historic buildings, India Gate stands as a silent sentinel of national honour.
🔥 Amar Jawan Jyoti – The Flame of the Immortal Soldier
At the base of India Gate, the students observed the Amar Jawan Jyoti, a black marble plinth with a reversed rifle, a soldier’s helmet, and four eternal flames. Lit after the 1971 Indo-Pak war, it served for decades as India's official war memorial, paying tribute to soldiers who gave their lives in independent India’s battles.
As students offered flowers and paused in silence, they experienced a deep emotional connection. For many, it was the first time they had seen a place that captures the spirit of national service so powerfully. It sparked thoughtful discussions about duty, selflessness, and the real meaning of service.
🪖 National War Memorial – A Modern Tribute
Just behind India Gate lies the National War Memorial, inaugurated in 2019. It honours over 25,000 soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in post-independence conflicts. Students walked through the circular galleries, known as the Chakravyuh, where walls carry the names of heroes etched in golden letters.
Interactive panels, audio guides, and beautifully maintained gardens made it a place of reflection and pride. The group also witnessed the Guard of Honour ceremony—a powerful moment that brought history and service alive.
🌟 A Lasting Impression
For Winway IAS Academy students, the India Gate visit was a turning point. It wasn’t just about a monument; it was about understanding the cost of freedom and the values that hold India together. As future administrators and responsible citizens, the students left with a renewed respect for the armed forces and a stronger sense of national responsibility.
📍 Conclusion
The visit to India Gate reinforced one clear message—freedom comes with responsibility, and remembering our heroes is the first step toward becoming one. For every Winway IAS aspirant, it was a lesson in humility, courage, and public service—etched forever in memory.
